Emily Signs for Top Race Team
15-year-old from Emily will be embarking on her first full season of car competition, following a short but highly successful karting career, where she lifted the 2016 Karting Junior Championship crown despite not contesting every round - a performance that saw her being 'Highly Commended' by Karting Magazine in their 'Rookie of the Year' award.
Emily tested out with Richardson Racing at the end of the 2017 season and has now become the second driver to put pen to paper on a deal with the team for 2018.
“I’m really pleased to be joining Richardson Racing,” she said. “When I tested with the team, their attention to detail in preparing the car was second to none and I felt comfortable straight away.
“The chance to work with an experienced driver coach like Sam Maher-Loughnan and to have access to their state-of-the-art simulator to help prepare for each of the races was an added bonus, and it was an easy decision to join the team for my first full season.
“I’m working hard to prepare for the year ahead and I feel confident about my chances. My aim is to learn as much as possible on track and try to fight for podium finishes before the end of the year.”
“We’ve got a full schedule of testing planned but budget remains the big issue. I’m still looking for sponsors to work with, hopefully local ones too, to be part of this exciting journey. I can’t wait to get started.”
Race team boss Gwyn Richardson expressed his delight at welcoming Emily into the team.
“Emily’s performance in testing has been very encouraging and she has really shown her potential,” he said. “She responded well to the feedback that we gave, and did an extremely good job.”
“Emily fitted in with the team straightaway and we’re pleased we have agreed a deal for 2018. We’re really looking forward to seeing how she does during the year ahead.”
